Body Dysmorphic Symptoms: 

Often occurs in teenagers but can affect both males and females, this disorder can also lead to muscle dysmorphia. Keep in mind these are not ALL the symptoms but rather the most common ones. 

Emotional and behavioral symptoms: 

  • Seeking cosmetic procedures to fix your perceived flaws; only feeling temporary satisfaction.

  • Believe that you have a defect in your appearance that causes you to look ugly or deformed 

  • Excessively worried about a perceived flaw that can't be seen by others or is minor 

  • Believe that others judge their bodies 

  • Hiding perceived flaws in clothes or makeup 

  • Constantly checking the mirror, excessive grooming, or skin picking 

  • Comparing your appearance to others 

  • Perfectionist behaviors 

  • Seeking reassurance about your appearance to others 

  • Isolation from social events, work, school, etc

  • Most common features people obsess over: 

  • Face (nose, complexion, wrinkles, acne or other skin problems)

  • Breast size

  • Skin and vein visibility  

  • Hair (thinning, balding) 

  • Muscle size

  • Genitalia
