The physical symptoms are correlated with starvation, but there are also emotional and behavioral symptoms related to body, weight, or the fear of becoming fat. Please keep in mind not all of the symptoms are included. 

Physical symptoms: 

  • Significant weight loss 

  • Thin physique 

  • Fatigue 

  • Insomnia 

  • Hair fall out, thinning or breaking 

  • Long period of time without menstruation 

  • Dizziness or fainting 

  • Osteoporosis 

  • Swelling of arms or legs 

  • Bluish discoloration of the fingers or nails 

  • Dehydration 

  • Constipation 

  • Yellowish skin tint

  • Excessive bruising 

  • Soft hair covering the body 

  • Feeling cold all the time 

Emotional and Behavioral Symptoms: 

  • Severely restricting, extreme dieting, fasting, or excessive exercise 

  • Bingeing, purposely vomiting to purify their body

  • Use of laxatives, enemas, diet pills, or herbal products 

  • Refusal to eat 

  • Lack of emotion 

  • Extreme fear of gaining weight 

  • Denial of hunger 

  • Depressed mood 

  • Lack of interest from social activities 

  • Reduced interest in sex 

  • Easily getting angry or irritable 

  • Skipping meals 

  • Making excuses to not eat 

  • Constantly weighing themselves, body checking, or frequently looking in the mirror.
